Sound Proofing Interior Walls-- DIY

During our pre-drywall meeting, Tim, our field manager said we could come in prior to insulation/dry wall (we had a short window) to either put in some 2x4s or 2x6s and even put in sound proof insulation into the interior walls. We hadn't thought of that before and immediately we were interested.

Joel did research and he ended up purchasing three bags of ROCKWOOL Rock Wool Batt Insulation with Sound Barrier, which is under $50 a bag. He googled what to do and so we went on a Saturday and worked on it for about 3 hours. We thought about the best places to soundproof interior walls. For example, the living room/TV wall and our master bedroom. Then we also wanted to soundproof our bathroom wall from our daughter's room. Then also the guest bath from the main hallway. We just feel like this gives more privacy and quieter times for our children and us. After being in our first house, this was some of the reasons we didn't like our past house and how things were set up.

We felt three bags was enough for what we wanted to do. You could really do all walls, and that would take an entire day plus you would need quite a bit more walls. A utility knife, a yard stick, and the batt were the only items needed. Joel would measure and cut and I would fit in each framing area.

You will see below, each item is a square and it just squeezes in nicely. You want to make sure it is tight. We noticed as we were adding, you could definitely tell a sound difference. We think it will be worth the investment!
